His father, Nandlal Madhaval Dhoot, was an industrialist who made his first fortune in the sugarcane and cotton industry. Nandlal Dhoot was the founder of Videocon Corporation and other business ventures like Videocon Electronics. The main success of the company came when color one got one of India's first licenses to prepare the television. Venugopal Dhoot is an avid fan and is full flotist. Videocon School of cricket was started in Kolkata, under the guidance of former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly, in the age group of 10 to 17, trained and promoted young cricketers of India.
